DupScout

If you do not have enough space on a disk partition and a cleanup utility has done all it can, you might want to consider another option. Duplicate files can waste valuable space. You may forget to erase old backup files, or other data which are not considered temporary files. DupScout will help you located and remove duplicate files. The application is fast and its functions are designed to suit the needs of beginners and experts alike. There are many duplicate finders on the market, but DupScout offers greater flexibility, efficiency and comfort.

The software is available in Pro, Ultimate, as well as Freeware versions. Regardless of your choice, you will have to download a 4.68 Mb setup file and run it. The setup process does not involve any advanced configurations and you can install the product on most Windows platforms.

Like all similar applications, DupScout will identify duplicate files on your hard drive, regardless of their size or format. You can start the process by clicking one of the options, located on the toolbar. The software can be set to look for similar files in specific folders, on the entire hard drive, network or in servers and NAS devices. If you want to look for duplicates in certain folders, you can target only one, but it is possible to add new folders to a list, on the left side of the main window.

If the program finds duplicate files, it will list them on the interface, along with information regarding the wasted disk space. You can access various statistics, on a separate window, illustrated by a graph or pie chart. Before processing the selected files, DupScout lets you select a certain action, like deleting, compressing, moving, replacing duplicates with shortcuts and more. After selecting an action, you can preview the effects on a small window, where you can select which files to process. Finally, you may click the Execute button, on the same preview window and the action will be carried out.

DupScout lets you create profiles as well, so you can save your settings. You can add new profiles to a list, on the left side of the interface, by clicking a small button, in the same area. You will have to name your profile and select a folder, target the hard drive, network and so on. When selecting a target for the search process, you can access additional options to set up rules, exceptions, automatic options and more.
